UES Hardware’s WA branch is no longer just a local operation, it’s officially transforming into the Western Region Distribution Hub, a strategic move that’s reshaping the way stock flows to customers across WA, SA and the NT.
The transformation marks a key milestone in UES’s broader plan to decentralise distribution, invest in operational efficiency, and deliver faster, smarter service to trade customers in the West. And at the heart of this upgrade? A bold warehouse redesign, smart logistics planning and a WA team proud to lead the charge.
More stock, less waiting and what this means for customers
Until now, stock destined for the West often took the long road, literally. Containers were landed and unpacked in New South Wales before being trucked across the country, adding time and thousands in freight costs. “We were seeing $15,000–$18,000 in freight costs for each delivery,” said Adrian Smith, WA Operations Manager. “Now, containers will land directly in Perth. That alone will pay off this project in the long run.”
The racking redesign, led in partnership with supplier Storite, will increase stock capacity at the WA branch by 20%, with new racking layouts, mesh decks to reduce dust, and category-based inventory systems making it faster to locate and move products.
“The biggest win for our customers is stock availability,” Adrian explained. “No more waiting eight to twelve weeks for key items to ship from overseas, then another fortnight for transfers from NSW. We can now turn orders around within 36 hours.”
Major upgrade, minimal disruption
The transition is being staged across four phases to avoid disrupting operations. In a clever workaround, the team is using a previously vacant warehouse area to store stock during the upgrade, allowing daily picking and dispatch to continue without downtime. “We couldn’t just shut up shop. Customers rely on us. So, we got creative with space and kept the business running while we built around it,” Adrian said.
Teamwork driving transformation
The WA team has played a central role in making the upgrade possible, embracing change and rolling up their sleeves to get the job done. The atmosphere is one of pride and progress, with the transformation unlocking new opportunities for growth. “Everyone’s leaned into the challenge, and you can really feel the momentum,” Adrian shared.
Built to support the entire region
The WA hub is also expanding its reach to support UES’s Bunnings division, adding another layer to its regional importance. Having already played a leading role in piloting online fulfilment, setting the standard for national expansion. “It’s not just about more stock, it’s about delivering faster, smarter and closer to where our customers are,” Adrian said.

Looking Ahead
The upgrade is on track to finish by the end of April, with full operations set to resume in May. For Adrian, the real success lies in the spirit of the team and the long-term customer impact.
“We’re investing in the future - ours and our customers’. When your team feels valued, that pride flows right through to how we serve.”
